How To Avoid The Pitfalls Of Manual Traffic Exchanges
I have been using traffic exchanges to build my online business for a few years now. One of the big attractions of traffic exchanges is that they are easy to use and you can quickly start getting traffic to your webpages, so they are great for beginners…
BUT… beginners beware!
The Pitfalls of Manual Traffic Exchanges
In the early days I’d sign up to a traffic exchange as a free member, put up a standard affiliate business programme page and click until I had 100 or so credits to point at it. The credits quickly got used up, but nobody signed up to the programme.
After repeatedly doing that over a period of three months or so, I began to think that nobody ever signed up to anything when surfing for credits and that traffic exchanges were a complete waste of time.
That’s what you often hear: that “TEs are a waste of time.”
But if you persevere and research how to use them properly, you will probably discover, as I did, that traffic exchanges can yield good results if you use them properly.
Here are some quick tips on how to achieve better results with manual traffic exchanges…
Make Your Own Splash Pages
People have short attention spans on TEs because they are waiting for the timer to count down. As soon as it hits zero they’ll most likely click away from your page, SO you need to catch their attention quickly, and make it easy for them to respond.
So, don’t just post your affiliate sales page on TEs (which is what most people do). Instead, make a simple “splash page” using a free tool, such as the free “splash page builder” inside TEToolbox.
Brand Yourself
Post a photo or video of yourself, and your name somewhere on the splash page in order to brand yourself as an expert in your business. Even if people don’t respond to your offer, they will notice you and your name and face will become familiar to them over time. If you use video, make sure you get the key message across in the first ten seconds or less…
Take Advantage of Special Offers on Credits Packs
Most TEs run special offers where you can buy credits for bargain basement prices. These are often presented to you on “One Time Offer” pages when you log in. If you spot an especially generous offer, go for it!
Take Advantage of Special Offers on Upgrades
There are many benefits to be had in upgrading your membership status on your favourite traffic exchanges. For one thing, you get a better surf ratio, usually 1:1 or better plus you get several hundred credits added to your account each month, as well as banner ads and text ads.
Take Advantage of Cheap Lifetime Upgrade Deals
Look out for good upgrade deals, especially cheap “lifetime” offers. Over the last couple of years I’ve taken advantage of several fantasic Lifetime Membership offers, for example on ILoveHits.com, TrafficShowdown.com and Royal-Surf.com. I receive hundreds of credits every month and never have to pay again.
Also, when I surf those sites I get a good surf ratio, especially on ILoveHits!
As an upgraded member, you will also start to receive random referrals into your TE downline, and if those people become active surfers, you will receive a percentage of free credits from their activity.
Pitch Your Offer To The TE Niche Market
What every TE surfer wants is MORE TRAFFIC to their websites, so if you can find a way to give them that, or show them how to get it, they’ll love you for it!
So, it is worth cross-promoting TEs on other TEs. After all, everybody on TEs are there to surf TEs! The downside is that many of your fellow surfers will already be members of multiple TEs.
A much more effective approach is to make a splash page offering free details about a TE downline builder that will also build their list and generate some fast cash.
That way, the surfer can quickly fill in a simple opt-in form (and join your mailing list).
Next, when they add their details to the downline builder they will join your downlines across several traffic exchanges.
Finally, if they want to promote the downline builder as affiliates, they will most likely upgrade, and you will get the commission as cash in your Paypal account.
A classic example of this kind of approach is the the good old Affiliate Funnel. TECommandPost also performs a similar function while helping you to manage your traffic exchanges from a single website.
MySurfBiz.com
A much newer and more dynamic kid on the block is MySurfBiz.com , which is specifically set up to build your list, build your TE downlines and generate a trickle of cash payments to your paypal account.
I have just set up my MySurfBiz.com site this weekend. I had 4 subscribers signed up to my list within an hour of promoting it and I had 7 new referrals join my list and 5 new referrals to my TE downlines…
So far, MySurfBiz is proving a very positive experience. I’ll write an in-depth review of the programme in an upcoming article.
Until then, don’t believe the negative stuff you hear about manual traffic exchanges. Instead, learn how to use them properly, and then take appropriate action on a MASSIVE scale!
Until next time,
Happy clickin’!
