How To Start An Internet Marketing Business In Five Quick Steps
Introducing Your Online Business Success Formula…
By David Hurley
This article covers five steps that you can take to start an Internet marketing business as quickly as possible. Let’s call it your Online Business Success Formula.
Step 1: Choose your market niche. You’ll first want to explore and pick a specific type of internet marketing that you’re interested in pursuing, a clearly defined market niche. One problem that most people have is finding something particular to get started on.
All too many people try the first opportunity that catches their attention, then after a few weeks, they see something else and switch to that. They waste a lot of time and effort dabbling with business opportunities instead of focusing on becoming an expert on just one specific thing.
Lack of focus and lack of commitment prevent them from actually getting started and getting anything accomplished.
So, even if it takes a few weeks or even a few months of researching and weighing your options, you’ll make much faster progress in the longer term if you research and find a suitable market niche, a product, a business programme or strategy that you’re willing to stick with.
Step 2: Set a budget. The biggest benefits of starting an internet marketing business is that it can be done quickly and with a very low monthly overhead. Nevertheless, if you do not set a budget and track your expenses you will have no idea where you stand financially and whether or not you can afford to increase your investment in your business.
A budget can be very basic, and a basic budget is much better than no budget. One of the biggest causes of failure in business is due to insufficient business and budget planning from the outset.
Step 3: Take action to make sure that you get your internet marketing business started quickly. Here are several tools that almost every internet marketer uses:
- Web hosting.
- A domain name for your website.
- A blog for regular news updates about yourself and your business.
- An auto-responder service for building and communicating with your list.
To get a quick start, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t invest a small amount of money into these services (just make sure that your packages are upgradeable to ensure a smooth expansion later).
You can do all of this for less than $20 a month and still get a great deal. This will ensure a very low monthly overhead that anyone can afford. Your overall risk will be minimized, which makes starting much easier. If you don’t have the time or inclination to build a website, you may be interested to know that I create Free Business Websites for my clients.
You can now begin the process of establishing your Internet presence by making a basic website and choosing a domain name. If possible use your own name as the domain name as this will help you to establish YOURSELF as the go-to person in your field. Once your website is up and running you can add some basic information about yourself and your line of business.
Step 4: Begin blogging about anything related to setting up your business. Blog content can be quite personal and chatty, so don’t worry if you are not sure at this stage what you are going to sell. Blogging about your search for a product will help you to build up a lot of unique content of interest to others who are also in your situation (and who could therefore be potential customers further down the line).
Blogging about your journey towards Internet business stardom will help you to focus in a creative way on your business and you will find yourself becoming more observant about the opportunities available to you. Thus, blogging even before you have a clear business idea will give you a head start when you start selling.
Step 5: Start freelancing to keep your business solvent. It’s important to identify the skills you have and plan on utilizing them to get a quick start and keep yourself solvent while you are building your online business. If you’re a writer and plan on writing all of the content for your websites, then you can also be a freelance writer (even if for just the first few months) to make sure that you have the additional funding needed to pay for other services such as website design or back-link building. Don’t hesitate to profit from whatever skills you can bring to the table on a freelance basis.
By doing this, you achieve two goals:
- You become actively focused on your business.
- You can fine-tune your skills and get necessary feedback from people who are already successful.
There are plenty of freelancing websites out there which you can join to advertise your services, or bid for jobs that people want to have done. Freelancing for others is also a good way of building up a network of online business people with whom you could later start joint ventures or ask for referrals when you have established your online business.
So, the online business success formula involves taking the time to research a suitable niche market; deciding on a specific plan of action to follow and setting a budget; getting the necessary tools, and identifying the skills that you’ll use the most and find other ways to profit from them.
Getting started quickly is simple no matter what type of internet marketing business you decide to start.
