How To Save Yourself From Social Media Overload
by Ty Wilson
You never thought it could happen. No, not to yourself, of all people. You’ve found yourself overwhelmed with posting, tweeting, sharing and connecting. There is a constant urge to learn all there is to know about social media. The need to “keep up” with all things social. Especially if you’re an entrepreneur and you want to reach out to as many sales prospects as humanly possible, before your competitor beats you to the punch.
However, there is simply too much for you to learn in one sitting. In your mind you have clutter, albeit intangible. But when I think of clutter, I think about the Hoarders show. Just like the overwhelm feeling you have, hoarders stink. Even those with the most honorable of intentions, stink. It’s time you quit being a virtual pack rat.
Learn how to combat social media overload in three steps:
The one. Even with social media management programs like Hootsuite at your disposal, being active on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or any other platform could be a daunting task.
Elect to concentrate on one of these for the time being. Get to know the ins and outs of one site and one site only. When you feel you have mastered it, add on another platform, but only if you feel that you’re ready.
Time to set a timer. all it takes is one well-written Facebook rant — usually about dating, in my case — and I can hang out by the proverbial water cooler for over an hour. That’s 60 minutes of my life in which I’m not writing for my clients, cleaning the house, or spending time with my daughter. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes for your social media activity. And stick to it.
Happy non-social media day! There is no rule stating that you must log on every day – assuming you don’t actually work for any of the social media outlets, ignore this tip altogether if that is the case! Choose a day to take a break from the networks. They will all be right where you left them, upon your return.
By placing yourself on a social media diet you’re more likely to enjoy it much more than you do now. It ties into the “absence makes the heart grows fonder” mentality. Not to mention your friends and family will appreciate seeing the real you, in person.
If you could choose one of the social media platforms, which one would you select?
Why?

Thank for the post and welcome Ty. I prefer the social business platforms. They have less following, but it is earlier to get your name and brand out.
I recommend Apsense, good ranking, content, and promotional opportunities
Hi Dr Don,
Are you familiar with IMFacePlate – another social business platform. GT Bulmer is quite a prominent member of it.
Thanks, Dr. Yates. And thank you for the info on Apsense.
