Are you acquainted with any dream-slayers? A dream-slayer is someone who puts you down when you are trying to change your life for the better. It is amazing how many people’s dreams are squashed by their friends and family. This is especially true when you are trying to do something that takes a great degree of personal initiative and self-motivation, like starting your own Internet business, or anything else that nobody in your immediate circle would ever think of doing for themselves.

The dream-slayer’s main argument is that your goal of starting your own Internet business is unrealistic. In the dream-slayer’s opinion you ought to be more “practical” and, in short, not aspire to anything at all. Many a dream-slayer piously believes himself to be doing you a favour by discouraging your “folly.”

Your dream-slayer thinks he is helping you live a life in “your best interest”. But really, he’s encouraging you to a live a life without vision.

If you are really motivated by a vision of success, then you must run the race that is set before you regardless of the opinion of those around you. To do anything less would be to render yourself untrue to yourself and to the source of your Inner Light.

You will live your life wondering what could have been if only you had kept your hand to the plough and not looked back. That is the last state of those who continue to live their lives influence by other people’s myopia than by the light of their own inner vision.

Your friends and family who discourage you from trying something new are only giving you insight into what they would do in your position. Though other people take the path of least resistance, that does not mean that you have to. They do not have the vision and the drive that you do.

They are only reacting out of their own fear. But your goals are precious to you for a reason. You will only be happy when you commit yourself to achieving them and begin to move towards them. Giving up on your goals because other people think they are unrealistic is no way to live your life.

In that respect, love them never so fondly, your friends and relatives sometimes take on the role of being the foes of your own household.

You must come to understand that your closest friends may sometimes be your greatest enemies.

So how do you overcome the dream-slayers in your life?

The first thing you must do is to take control of who you spend your time with. If you want to be self-motivated, you’ve got to spend time with other people who are self-motivated. The same goes for the other aspects of success. Thankfully, today, even if you don’t have any like-minded people in your circle you can always find them on forums on the Internet if you do some research. Keep your dream of starting your own Internet business alive by meeting like minded people on the Internet.

If the dream-slayers are close relatives, and long-time friends, then it is important that you keep your business goals to yourself at least until you get going. By the time you’ve had a little success, they will either be a lot more supportive, or effect not to notice your achievement and keep quiet in the hope that you will suffer a tumble or two – for friends are more envious of your successes than enemies, and enjoy nothing more than to see one of their own take a tumble.

Finally, the best way to overcome the dream-slayers in your life is to exercise confidence in yourself and your goals. If you are truly confident in yourself and your ideas, then no one will be able to stop you.

It is therefore imperative that you keep your goals and dreams in front of you all the time. They will be your motivation in testing times and times of tribulation or when some of your “well-meaning friends” seek to pull you down with their nay-saying.

Press towards the mark that is set before you, and above all, do not let any of your household foes slay your dream of starting your own Internet business!
