Those of us who can sit on our backsides in the comfort of our homes for several hours a day making a living on the Internet really are very privileged.
So this page of my website is all about using the Internet to give a bit back, while giving you some credit, in the form of link juice, for your donations.
1. Kiva
Kiva is a non-profit organization which uses the potential of the Internet to connect donors and small businesses with the aim of lending to alleviate poverty. It appeals to me for two reasons. Firstly, it uses the Internet as the medium through which people can help each other. Secondly, every micro loan is targeted to ONE specific business, so you know exactly who you are helping, and how. By using the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. Help me help Kiva!
2. ANT-Hiroshima
ANT-Hiroshima is a small charity based in Hiroshima, Japan, where I live. I do some consulting work for this charity and have a lot of respect for Tomoko Watanabe the Executive Director. ANT-Hiroshima is involved in several projects to help the Tohoko region of Japan recover from the devastation of the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear disaster of March 2011. If you donate to ANT-Hiroshima via Paypal, I will acknowledge your donation with a link back to your site from my Help Japan! page.
