4 Reasons Why Your Business Website Is Not Making Money

There are a lot of things that people focus on when they are trying make money with a business website. Some of the most common include things like the number of blog comments, subscribers, likes, shares, traffic and page views.

While all of these things are important, there are really only four reasons why you are not making money online and they are...

4 Keys to Growing Your Internet Marketing Business In A Saturated Niche

As more people begin marketing online, it’s getting harder to find Internet marketing business niches which are not highly competitive.

While you can still gain advantage by spending time searching for niches with little competition, it is just as beneficial to develop a strategy which will allow you to grow your Internet marketing business even if you’re in a niche which is saturated with competition.

In many ways, it is more beneficial because the same strategy can be used regardless of your competition. By following these four fundamental keys, you can develop a method to compete in any niche regardless of its competition level.

1. Become An Internet Marketing Business Machine

In short, the best way to grow your website in a competitive niche is simply to get stuff done

  • If you are trying to stay competitive, then you need to be getting more things done then the competition.
  • If you are primarily a content marketer, then you need to crank out content.
  • If you focus on social media, then you need to establish a presence which is substantially more visible than everyone else’s.
  • If you are not relentless, then there will be many others who are and so you will never get the results you want – especially in a highly competitive niche.

2. Develop Your Unique Selling Proposition

Although this advice applies to every kind of Internet marketing business, is especially true if you are providing a specific service.

One of the biggest problems that many people run into is that they try to please everyone when they should focus on developing their unique selling proposition, or speciality.

Your speciality could be based on a particular skill that you provide or simply based on the persona you project. Whatever it is, don’t compromise it simply to make someone else happy.

Websites which try to please everyone are the ones that get lost in the fray because there is nothing special about them – they are generic rather than unique.

3. Learn How To Grab People’s Attention

With so many competing voices in your niche, you have to find out how to grab people’s attention on a consistent basis. This could be learning how to create catchy headlines and titles, it could be developing instructional videos, it can even be a series of infographics.

Whatever it is, you have to be able to stand out in a way that makes others interested in what you are offering. If you are trying to compete in a competitive niche on your own, then learning at least the basics of effective copywriting can prove to be extremely helpful.

4. Become A Teacher

Finally, you need to think like a teacher. A teacher who only provides information is never effective in the classroom. Teachers spend most of their time finding different ways to engage their students and make them active participants in the conversation.

The same is true for an effective website.

Along with providing helpful information, you also need to find a way to make a personal connection with your audience and engage them. This will do wonders for boosting your repeat visitors. Plus, it is the cornerstone of developing enthusiastic fans.

If you are running an Internet marketing business in a saturated niche, you may feel like for every step you take forward, you take two steps back. Fortunately, if you have built a strong foundation, a little extra effort can go a long way. The key is to be relentless.

Embrace your specialty, develop you unique selling proposition and learn how to grab your target audience’s attention, and think like a teacher to engage your audience.

6 Questions You Must Answer Before Selecting A Niche Business

While different people target specific niche businesses for different reasons, there are still some fundamental questions that need to be addressed in order to ensure that your niche business can be successfully monetized.

If you start out in the wrong niche business, then you are immediately at a disadvantage. This means that you will need to either fight an uphill battle or simply start over from scratch.

Here are 6 questions that you need to ask yourself before jumping into a new niche.

1. Can You Sustain Your Position?

A lot of people will tell you to look at passionate or interested you are in the topic itself, but this can be a little constraining. Moreover, it needlessly eliminates potentially lucrative niches based solely on personal preference. Sure, if you are more passionate about a specific niche, it will be easier to stay in it for the long haul, but would you be willing to work harder for more money in a different niche? Most people will. A much better question is whether or not you believe that you are willing to create a sustainable presence in the niche. Keep in mind that this could mean different things in different niches. For example, some niches are much more evergreen than others, which means you may not need to update the content as frequently.

2. Will You Make Your Target Market “Happy”?

This question is geared primarily towards the topics themselves. People are more willing to pay for things that make them happy. This includes things like self-improvement, entertainment, and solving a problem.

For most niches, simply providing information isn’t enough, you need to provide your readers with the emotional desire to want what you are offering and good reasons to justify that desire.

3. At What Level Of Skill Will You Enter Your Niche Business?

Another thing that is often overlooked is the skill level that you want to enter a niche business at. Not everyone needs to be a guru in order to be successful.

Just as many people can carve out sub-niches playing the role of a “newbie” sharing information with complete newbies. Just look at how many people are successful in the health niche who aren’t doctors. They don’t have the “proper” education to be handing out advice, but they still can.

4. Who Are Your Potential Customers?

It is important to nail down the demographics of your niche business as much as possible. Keep in mind that in many cases, if you would sell the exact same product both online and off line, the target market would likely be different for each of them. This is because some demographics prefer to make purchases online and some still prefer not to.

5. What Types of Searches Will Find Your Niche Business Site?

There really isn’t a “bad” niche insofar that everything can be monetized. At minimum, you could sell advertising or place Adsense-type ads on your site.

In general, there are three different types of searches:

  • The first has a single, specific correct answer.
  • The second is more of a general information type of search.
  • The third is a “buyers search” which means they are looking to buy something right away.

All of these types of searches can be profitable, but they are all monetized differently.

6. How Does It Trend?

Finally, you need to look at the market trends. Some niches are seasonal, some are fairly sustained over the course of year, and some are fads that will be gone in a few months.

You should also make a note of whether the niche is generally increasing or decreasing in popular from a general standpoint.

If your niche is in the process of slowly dying, then you need a strategy to get the maximum amount of money and create an exit strategy to get out at the right time.

Once you have the answer to these 6 niches, you will know exactly what you are getting yourself into and create an effective plan of attack.

4 Secret Niche Business Selection Tips to Skyrocket Profits

When choosing a niche business, a lot of the advice out there looks pretty much the same. You need to “be passionate” about the topic and it should be “easy to monetize” …

But if it was really that easy then everyone would be successful.

There are a number of small details that most people never consider. Here is a quick look at four secret niche business selection tips that can skyrocket your profits.

1. Don’t Worry About The Number of Competitors

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make is deciding not to pursue a niche business solely because a lot other websites show up in the search results. The volume of competition is really a non-factor.

Instead, you need to focus on the quality of the competition.

There are millions if not billions of search terms that have a high volume of competition, but very poor search engine optimized sites on the first page. Your goals when analyzing your competition shouldn’t be how many you are competing against, but rather whether or not you can beat the top five.

2. Identify a Complete Sales Funnel Opportunity

Another common mistake that people make is that they only focus on the primary product that want to sell. You need to make sure that you can create an entire sales funnel for your niche business. This doesn’t mean that you need to find a high end product that costs $10,000, but you should make sure that there is a high end product in 3 or 4 figures depending on what your opening product will be.

There is no reason to attack a niche if most of your customers will only be one-time buyers. Even if your sales funnel is fairly horizontal and most of the products are all under $50, you can still do very well as long as your customers are buying over and over again.

3. Locate At Least One Form of Recurring Income

This isn’t a hard and fast rule, but if you want to really skyrocket your niche business profits, finding at least one source of recurring income should be considered ideal.

It is especially beneficial if this product can be your entry or second level product. Even if you are making only a small amount of money from these sales, you will make that small amount multiple times per customer, which can add up fast. Plus, it creates a strong base-line income for the niche.

4. Find A Niche Business Where the Competition Has a Poor Follow-Up Strategy

There are a lot of niches out there where most of the competition has a minimal follow-up strategy, if any.

This is most often seen in niches where most of the top websites in the search results are ad-based sites. People who only monetize their sites with methods like banner ad sales and Google Adsense have very little reason to create an effective follow-up system because they tend to  make money off of each person only once.

By identifying niches like this, you can find yourself with very little real competition over the long run because you are the only one building relationships with potential customers.

Instead of focusing on the volume of competing websites, focus on the quality of competition in terms of both search engine optimization and follow-up ability. This will help you identify niches that you can immediately stand out in.

In order to maximize your profits, make sure that you can establish a clear sales funnel and ideally find a source of recurring income for your niche business.

What It Takes To Be An Expert In Your Niche

No matter what type of online business you’re involved with, you have to be able to show people that you’re an expert in your niche.

When you can show that you’re an expert in your niche, customers will come to you for what you have to offer; you won’t have to chase after them in search of an elusive sale any more.

But there is a certain misconception that it takes years to become a known expert in an industry; people think that it’s difficult to convince others that you know what you’re talking about. The following are a few proven methods for gaining rapid expertise in any niche you might be involved with.

Leverage the Power of Forums

Find forums in your niche and participate in discussions so you get to know more people with similar interests. Most of these forums get targeted traffic since they focus on a broad niche, which means if you can showcase your level of knowledge on these forums, you’ll slowly create an expert persona in front of the other members. Forums make it easy for you to get involved in discussions, start your own threads and answer questions. The more active you are, the more people will start to consider you an expert that can be trusted. Using these forums to achieve your goal of becoming an expert should be an obvious step, given that you’ll be able to create so many different connections in your industry and win the trust of the other members.

Publish Articles

Content spread around a huge network is the basis of the internet. And contributing to this network helps boost your credibility and carve a name for yourself as an expert in your niche.

You achieve this best by writing and publishing articles on the web. There are several article directories willing to publish well written articles. When people find your articles informative, they will see you as someone they can trust and as someone who knows what they’re talking about. You should focus on writing and publishing your articles online if you aren’t already.

Keep Yourself Updated

Being an expert, it’s your job to keep on creating new and valuable content for your target audience, and give them more value as time goes by. But if you don’t know what’s happening in the industry, you can’t do that. You need to constantly stay on your toes and keep informed about the latest happenings. This will help you know what kind of articles to publish, what your blog posts should be about, and what your target audience is interested in.

Just make up your mind that you’re going to be seen as an expert in your field one day, and if you work at it steadily that day doesn’t have to be very far off.
